Good for Heritage Railways to be taking the needs of disabled into account

For once, a heritage steam railway has been thinking heavily about the needs of the disabled community and bought in a new carriage which has space for 10 wheelchair users, but also 32 seats, whcih is a nice large number plus a full disabled toilet, and to be honest not many railways have this, only the main line trains do and then only the newer stock or the old stock which has been heavily refurbishe,d but I'd like to see more things like this done as some places really need to take into the account of the disbaled community more, the disabledd community may like to travel on the railways etc, but with the main line trains it requires booking assitance and these steam railways you can turn up and go, if you know the carriage is operating, but why the mainline trains can't be more like this.

The BBC News article can be found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/8641619.stm

Why does Network Rail not think of the needs of travellers?

It might be me or I'm getting the feeling when Network Rail wants to a design a new island platform for disbaled, they don't think about the large number of Cyclists in the city using the trains but also if there are going to be concerns for the cyclists, it also asks the question whether the design will take into needs of the disabled community properly as it should under the disability legislation but the article here:

Does make me wonder whetehr Network Rail is just thinking of standard designs and not taking into needs the community of the local area. Anyhow, I have now started to get involved following this and I am hoping to hit any problems with the disabled side of view of the plans on the head now before the work is one and serious problems are caused.

Welcome to my Blog

Hi,

Coming soon will be information about what I have done on the disability front in terms of improving access and making changes in some of the UK's biggest organisations for improving access and making more aware of the need of the disabled community.

Some of these issues have caused changes in major well known UK High Street Chains for shopping and resturants.
