It may interest you but if a shop which has closed and a new one moves in if you try and speak with their head office before opening they will quite often agree something needs to be done if you lett them know you know of problems e.g. a ;lift which isn't very disabled friendly if you just let their head office know and ask for action before they open, quuite often they will act and get the problem sorted out.
I am waiiting to see what happens with Westgate Department Stores, in Saffron Walden over this as they have promised me brining the lift up to DDA Act spec, as I've struggled with it in the past due to the lack of embossed buttons, but also with the fact I don't think it had been modernused or anything major done for 15+ years it was along over due to bring it up to miderb day standard as with there being no emergency phone and the alarm call button being out of reach of a wheelchair user, I knew a disabled person could get stuck in there, just speaking with their head office has had the assurance from their MD, they will ensure full DDA Act compliance.
Also, TK Mxx, seem to have agreed the same with the lift and possibly nesecarry changes with the platform lifts in the forner Borders branch in Cambridge, and they have agreed it seems that a standard Otis 2000 panel without embosesed buttomns won''t be suitbale, but I am waiting to see on this front to, but just letitng head offices know of problems before opening when it's an existing building can have some major benefits as it's clear to me some companies are concerned about the situation for the disabled community if the problem is raised and most will act on it, you just have to get in touch.
